CNY Memorial Stair Climb
We would like to give a shout out to our very own firefighters that participated in the CNY Memorial Stair Climb in Utica yesterday Ed Davis, Steve Beck & Gabe Acquilla. Thank you for representing Pleasant Square VFC at this great memorial event.
The CNY Memorial Stair Climb is an annual event held in honor of the hundreds of first responders who died on Sept. 11, 2001. More than 420 firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS personnel climb 110 flights of stairs – the same number of floors that were in the World Trade Center – in full turnout gear and uniforms.
Each of the climbers carry a tag bearing the name, photo and agency of one of the first responders who died on 9/11, and at the end of the climb they place the tag on a memory board.

Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant
In June, Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Company applied for the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant (VFA) program is made possible by the Federal Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978. The grant is a 50/50 matching funds program. Its purpose is to make funds available to rural fire companies for the purchase of wildland firefighting equipment such as portable backpack pumps, Nomex protective clothing, hand tools, hard hats, hose, portable radios and dry hydrants.
We have been awarded the grant to cover half the cost of replacing 350 feet of fire hose that failed hose safety testing earlier this year. We are very appreciative of these funds that will help offset the impact of these unanticipated costs.
